Cameroon Edge Super Falcons 1‑0 In Pre‑WAFCON Friendly In Yaoundé

Yvana’s stoppage-time strike secures Cameroon win as Nigeria test new WAFCON squad in Yaoundé friendly

Cameroon’s women’s national football team, the Indomitable Lionesses, defeated Nigeria’s Super Falcons 1‑0 in their first pre‑2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) friendly on Saturday, 28 February 2026, at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé, Morocco and Nigeria’s build‑up to the tournament. The stoppage‑time winner from Mbomezomo Yvana proved decisive in a tightly contested preparation match, according to reports from Nigeria Info and Pulse Sports Nigeria.

The only goal came deep into second‑half stoppage time, with Yvana converting a late opportunity to lift the Lionesses in front as both teams used the fixture to test combinations ahead of the continental championship.

Head coach Justine Madugu selected a squad blending experienced internationals with new faces as part of evaluation for his WAFCON roster. Premium Times reported that goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor made her senior debut and captained by Rasheedat Ajibade, while midfielder Ngozi Okobi‑Okeoghene started her first match in three years.

Nigeria dominated phases of the first half and created opportunities, but struggled to convert pressure into goals against the disciplined Cameroonian defence. The Super Falcons introduced substitutes in the second period, including Folashade Ijamilusi and Precious Christopher, who earned her first cap.

Madugu had emphasised the importance of using the friendly to evaluate players, telling reporters prior to kick‑off: “Winning is not the ultimate for us, because the major objective is to really assess the players,” a comment reflected in Nigeria Info.

The venue for Nigeria’s next fixture remains the Military Stadium, with the second friendly against Cameroon scheduled for Tuesday, 3 March 2026, offering further opportunities for assessment ahead of the continental championship.

The Super Falcons, 10‑time African champions, are drawn into Group C for WAFCON 2026 alongside Zambia, Egypt and Malawi as they seek to retain the title. Nigeria’s group stage opens on 18 March in Casablanca against Malawi, part of a tournament running from 17 March to 3 April 2026. All four semi‑finalists will secure automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
