Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers set two scoring records in three days against the Phoenix Mercury this week. First, she passed Seimone Augustus for the most points by a player in their first two WNBA seasons. Then she broke the franchise’s single-season scoring record. That Paige Bueckers record run came as Dallas pushed for a playoff place, which the Wings sealed as the No. 7 seed on Wednesday.
First Paige Bueckers Record: Passing Seimone Augustus
The first milestone came on Saturday 19 September, when Dallas beat Phoenix 87–82. Bueckers scored 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting and added five assists and three steals, Yardbarker reported.
That took her to 1,515 points across her first two seasons, two more than the 1,513 Augustus scored for the Minnesota Lynx in 2006 and 2007. However, Newsweek pointed out that Bueckers needed 75 games to get there, compared with 68 for Augustus.
Paige Bueckers Record Falls in One-Point Defeat
Two days later, the teams met again. Bueckers scored 30 points on Monday 21 September, lifting her season total to 853. That moved her past Arike Ogunbowale’s franchise record of 849 from 2023, according to the Dallas Sports Journal.
Dallas still lost 87–86. Phoenix outscored the Wings 24–12 over the final eight minutes, and Kahleah Copper’s layup with 2.4 seconds left sealed the comeback. “Every possession matters on both ends of the floor,” Wings head coach José Fernández said afterwards.
It was Bueckers’ fourth 30-point game of the season, Yahoo Sports reported. She had also broken the franchise’s single-season assists record on 20 August, in a 91–85 win over the Indiana Fever.
Wings Secure the No. 7 Seed
Bueckers carried that form into Wednesday’s regular-season finale. She scored 25 points as Dallas beat the Seattle Storm 103–91. Jessica Shepard also recorded a triple-double of 20 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. Ogunbowale added 23 points.

Bueckers’ Season in Numbers
The 2025 No. 1 draft pick and Rookie of the Year has taken another step in her second season. According to Newsweek, Bueckers is averaging:
- Points: 20.6 per game
- Assists: 5.8 per game
- Rebounds: 4.1 per game
- Field goal percentage: 51.9%
She also made her second straight All-Star appearance this summer. In addition, Yahoo Sports noted that she ranks in the league’s top 10 for both scoring and assists, which has put her in the MVP and All-WNBA conversation.
