Man City Beat Arsenal 4–2 as Lauren Hemp Double Leaves Gunners 10 Points Adrift
Manchester City beat Arsenal 4–2 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 4 October, coming from behind twice to stay perfect at the top of the Women’s Super League. Lauren Hemp scored twice, while Kerstin Casparij and Khadija “Bunny” Shaw also found the net, according to City’s official match report. The Man City Arsenal result left the Gunners 10 points behind the leaders after five games, Sky Sports reported.
It was Arsenal’s second straight league defeat, after their 1–0 loss to Chelsea a week earlier. Head coach Renée Slegers admitted afterwards that her side were no longer in the title conversation.
How Man City Beat Arsenal

Arsenal started well and took the lead in the 43rd minute through Lisa Baum. However, Hemp equalised in first-half stoppage time, according to City.
The visitors went ahead again early in the second half when Alessia Russo scored in the 49th minute. City then took control after the hour. Casparij levelled in the 63rd minute, Hemp put City in front in the 72nd and Shaw sealed the win six minutes from time.
City also had a first-half goal ruled out for a foul. Meanwhile, Arsenal lost Mariona Caldentey to injury at half-time, with Caitlin Foord coming on in her place, Online Gooner reported.
Lauren Hemp Stars for the Champions
Hemp was named player of the match. As well as her two goals, she provided an assist and worked hard without the ball, City said.
City manager Andrée Jeglertz’s changes after the hour also made a difference, according to the club. Despite the result, he backed Arsenal to recover. He said he was “pretty sure” they would be fighting for the title by the spring, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Man City Arsenal Result Piles Pressure on Slegers
Arsenal now sit 10th with only one league win from five matches, Sky Sports reported. That is a sharp drop for a side that went unbeaten in 20 WSL games before losing to Chelsea.
Slegers was frank about where her team stands. “At the moment, we’re not in the title race conversation, no,” she said. She added that the period had been “mentally demanding” for the squad.
